Hanya Elghamry is a curator, cultural producer, critical writer and educator whose practice bridges contemporary art, cultural heritage, and public engagement. Working internationally across the UK, Europe, and the SWANA region, she develops research-driven exhibitions and programmes that connect artists, institutions, and audiences through site-responsive curatorial practice and cross-cultural dialogue.

Elghamry previously served as Senior Curator at Art D’Egypte | Culturvator, where she directed major contemporary art exhibitions in historically significant sites. Her work includes the internationally acclaimed exhibition Forever Is Now (Editions I–IV) at the Pyramids of Giza — the first contemporary art exhibition staged at the 4,500-year-old UNESCO World Heritage site. The exhibition brought together artists including JR, Pascale Marthine Tayou, eL Seed, Sabine Marcelis, Chris Levine, Lorenzo Quinn, and Sherin Guirguis, welcoming over three million visitors and reaching global audiences online.

Her curatorial work within Art D'Egypte spanned institutional, public, and independent contexts, including projects in Historic Cairo, artist residencies and symposia, and exhibitions in London. She has collaborated with international platforms and partners including Google Arts & Culture, Christie’s, Bloomberg, Art Basel, Pictet, Art Dubai, Noor Riyadh, and Alserkal Avenue.

Alongside exhibition making, Elghamry develops public programmes and learning initiatives that bring artists, scholars, and communities into dialogue. She has produced over a hundred talks, lectures, and workshops through initiatives such as Cultural Conversations, and has led youth and community learning programmes including Art Guides and Heritage Guardians.

Elghamry has also worked closely with the estates of pioneering modern Egyptian artists Effat Nagy, Mohamed Nagy, and Hamed Abdallah, conducting archival research, managing artist portfolios, and supporting acquisitions by international museums, cultural institutions, and auction houses. This work reflects her commitment to preserving and recontextualising modern Middle Eastern art histories within global museum narratives.

Elghamry currently manages major public events and research-led cultural programmes at the British Academy in London, including lectures, conferences and awards, working with DSIT, Wellcome Trust and Academy Partners across the UK. She has taught curatorial practice and spatial design at Central Saint Martins (UAL) and the London College of Contemporary Arts, mentoring emerging artists and designers.

Elghamry holds an MA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, PGCert in Creative Education, University for the Creative Arts London, and dual BA degrees in Visual Arts and Integrated Marketing Communication from the American University in Cairo. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, an Association of Women in the Arts (AWITA) Sponsored Member, and a recipient of the UK Global Talent Visa endorsed by Arts Council England.

Through her work, Elghamry seeks to create curatorial frameworks where contemporary artistic practice, cultural memory, and public participation converge, expanding how museums and cultural institutions engage with global audiences today.
